Position Summary: Sr. Rack Fabricator

The Senior Rack Technician will establish the cabling infrastructure within the racks needed for successful deployment of systems for new construction and retrofit applications. Will be responsible for deploying a racking system that meets the AVDG standard of excellence in device mounting, cable management, thermal and power management, configuration, and functionality. The Sr. Rack Technician will terminate and test this infrastructure to ensure proper system functionality and performance benchmarks are met along with providing work direction to apprentice rack technicians.

The Sr. Rack Technician will work with AVDG Account Managers, Project Managers, Engineers, Programmers, Field Engineers, and the Service team to deliver the client's desired level of functionality and performance for their system needs. The candidate must embody AVDG's standard of excellence in communication and professionalism. The candidate will also be responsible for the management, mentoring, and development of an assigned subordinate.

Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Configure and assemble in racks equipment for advanced audio/video systems including:
  • 2-channel and Multi-channel Surround-Sound
  • Multi-Zone Audio
  • 70-volt Audio
  • Multi-Zone Audio and Video
  • Analog and Digital Video Matrix Switches and Distribution amplifiers
  • Signal baluns and extenders
  • Audio and Video calibration techniques
  • Robust networking solutions
  • Category Network cabling
  • Patch panels
  • Networking hardware
  • Managed Wireless Networks
  • Network cameras and video recorders
  • Work with a variety of control and automation wiring, protocols, and system programming including:
  • Infrared
  • Radio Frequency (ex, Zig-Bee, Z-wave, Wi-Fi, ClearConnect, SonosNet)
  • RS-232
  • RS-485
  • IP Control
  • Relays
  • Contact Closures
  • Understand the integration of control systems with audio, video, security, HVAC, access control, intercom, surveillance, and other sub systems.
  • Manage the rack building area with regard to safety (OSHA), cleanliness, client property and equipment.
  • Become the SME of the racks; recommending solutions, add-ons, big picture system objectives that meet the client's needs.
  • Consistently deliver the AVDG Promise of "Do it right, the first time."
To join our band, you'll need the following experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Associates Degree highly desired but not required
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience required with 2 years leading teams.
  • Experience with MS Office required, Solutions 365 highly desirable.
  • Must possess a solid understanding of basic electrical theory, including Ohm's Law.
  • Basic understanding of construction principles and be able to execute his/her work according to current National Electrical Code and Uniform Building Code standards as well as any Code or applicable laws mandated by the authorizing jurisdiction is a major plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret site plans including architectural drawings, as-build plans, engineering system schematics and elevation drawings.
  • Strong understanding of thermal management in racking systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
  • Ability to work with hand/power tools and experienced with soldering required.
  • Need a self-starter with project management experience.
