Job Description

The Technician, Repairs is to inspect inbound and outbound instruments to ensure the quality of the inventory from the vendor and to the customer. This position performs customer set up requests prior to shipping and evaluates damaged merchandise to determine if it is cost effective to fix or return to the vendor as flawed.

3 - 5 years of experience performing deep repairs to stringed instruments, a certification from an accredited luthier program, or a combination of experience and education. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

  • Conducts performance tests on new and returned instruments to evaluate their sound quality and identify defects upon arrival and prior to shipping.
  • Repair and recondition new or used instruments as required. Polish instruments using rags, compounds, buffing wheels, and burnishing tools to return instruments to sellable stock.
  • Record and enter serial numbers and other instrument data into inventory software for site exposure.
  • Work with vendors to obtain additional and replacement parts for instruments.
  • Utility functions such as removing used cardboard and trash from department, and assisting with various warehouse functions.
  • Various warehouse functions such as picking, packing, and shipping new customer orders. 
  • Other duties as assigned, such as maintaining current product knowledge on new developments in the industry.

Mental Functions:

Refers to positions where the incumbent performs the required tasks independently. The incumbent may perform duties in the areas of technical support, design and analysis, and can be required to make recommendations. The person holding such a position may also exercise supervisory responsibilities, but not on a regular and ongoing basis. Work is performed under the general supervision of an immediate supervisor, who reviews the completed work in order to assess the degree of judgment and compliance with standards.

 

Physical Functions:

Standing 10%, Walking 10%, Sitting 80%

  • Constant mental and/or visual attention; the work is either repetitive or diversified requiring constant alertness in an office environment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to sit, occasionally required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must be able to speak, read, write, and comprehend English.

  • Associate's Degree preferred, or 2 years equivalent experience
  • Apprenticeship or a diploma for an accredited repair school
  • Intermediate knowledge of guitar and bass set up and repair
