PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Audio Producer is an audio engineer experienced in both audio capture for recording and mixing final audio productions. The role serves as audio support during pre-production, execution, and in post-production – for all content creation (digital video content, organic social media, paid media advertisements, live events, in-store audio network, audio only demos, etc).

The ideal candidate will be comfortable in a variety of recording and mixing environments from legendary Los Angeles recording studios to home studios of emerging and established artists to the factory floors of iconic gear manufacturers, as well as small and large music venues and in Guitar Center stores.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

  • Works in collaboration with Creative Content, Talent, Events, and Production staff to produce a variety of audio products from product demonstrations to how-to videos, to artist profiles, to commercials, television broadcast, radio and digital audio streaming, in-store audio ads, video content & live streams, podcasts, and audio only demos (teams/type of productions)
  • Supports and plans assigned studio and field productions; coordinates pre-production and production planning activities
  • Participates in project launch, pre-production meetings, and location scouting
  • Reviews and/or creates input list and stage plot
  • Establishes audio capture needs including mics & monitoring
  • Provides a proof-of-concept rough mix or pre-shoot music cuts
  • Sources gear including microphones, monitors, recording equipment
  • Secures and works with freelance audio crew as needed 
  • Transports and sets up audio equipment for recording audio in the field, at events, or on-site for video shoots
  • During productions, set-up mics and monitors, adjusts audio equipment
  • Leads a line check and sound check as needed on shoots
  • Plans and performs audio post-production tasks which includes sending audio out for transcription, logging recordings, reviewing audio tracks, collaborating with producers to make editorial decisions, rough mixes, and final mixes and exports using Pro Tools and other industry standard software; creates audio deliverables that meet the overall production concept; prepares audio for output providing an OMF to video editors, and works in coordination with internal and external trafficking as required.
  • Helps maintain playlist for GC in-store radio and producing in-store ads
  • Provides troubleshooting of audio equipment and performs routine equipment maintenance
  • Maintains awareness of current production best practices and updated technology and products ranging from recording software, plug-ins, interfaces, pre-amps, mixers, and microphones 
  • Makes recommendations to department for software and equipment purchases

Requirements

  • Fluent in multiple DAWs including Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live
  • Comfortable with a variety of interfaces
  • Must be proficient in Izotope RX Suite and noise reduction software
  • Comfortable micing and recording cross-category musical and pro audio products, including but not limited to, guitar amplifiers, full drum kits, acoustic guitars, etc
  • Additional skills that are beneficial include the ability to identify and isolate common audio problems on set, example grounding issues, problems w/ instruments –
  • Experience working closely with video production – editing in particular
  • Comfortable providing mixes for playback on a variety of platforms and devices
  • Tech/Live Sound FOH is not a requirement but a plus
  • Able to follow creative and content direction – taking into consideration the creative direction, talent needs, gear being demonstrated and used, and the location when identifying the proper audio set-up for capture
  • Adept at handling recording in a variety of settings and various timelines
  • Flexible, adaptable, and receptive to feedback
  • Maintains a solutions-oriented mind set and willing to strive for improvement 
  • Collaborative, communicative, passionate about music
  • Strong attention to detail and a critical mind
  • Genuinely interested in musical gear and passionate about educating and inspiring musicians
  • Available for travel as needed to remote locations both within and outside of Southern California

Pay Rate: $67,000-$72,000/yr depending on background and experience.
